What is the FTSE 100 Index?
The FTSE 100 Index: (FTSE 100 Index) formerly known as the Financial Times 100 Index, which was founded on January 3, 1984, is the stock index of the largest 100 companies listed on the London Stock Exchange.
The index is a barometer of the UK economy and one of the most important stock indices in Europe. Related stock indices include the FTSE 250 Index (excluding the stock index of the 250 largest companies outside the 100 largest companies) and the FTSE 350 Index (a combination of the FTSE 100 and the FTSE 250 Index).
